Getting started with VESL
VESL installs in about two minutes, no tools required. If anything comes up, we respond to every message - usually within a few hours.
Installation
1
Remove your existing showerhead
Turn it counterclockwise until it comes free. Most unscrew by hand - if it's stiff, a cloth for grip is all you need. No wrench required.
2
Wrap the thread tape
Wrap the included thread tape clockwise around the threads on your shower arm - about 3 to 4 passes. This creates a watertight seal and is the single most effective step for a leak-free install.
Thread tape is included in every box.
3
Thread on VESL
Screw VESL clockwise onto the shower arm. Hand-tighten firmly until snug. Stop when it stops - overtightening is not necessary and can make future removal harder.
4
Turn on the water and check
Run the water for 30 seconds. Check the connection point for any dripping. If you see a leak, turn off the water, remove VESL, re-wrap the thread tape with a few more passes, and reinstall.
Frequently asked questions
Compatibility
VESL fits standard U.S. 1/2" NPT shower arms, which covers the vast majority of homes and apartments built in the last several decades. If your current showerhead screws off, VESL will screw on.
Yes. VESL is renter-friendly and does not require permanent modifications. Installation and removal are fully reversible - you can reinstall your original showerhead before moving out without leaving any trace.
Most handheld showerheads use the same standard threading and VESL will fit. If you have an unusual wall configuration or an older fixed-mount setup you're unsure about, email us a photo at support@myvesl.com and we'll confirm before you order.
Installation and setup
No tools required. VESL installs by hand in about two minutes. Thread tape is included in every box.
A small drip at the connection point almost always means the thread tape needs more passes. Remove VESL, add 2 to 3 additional wraps clockwise, and reinstall. In almost every case that resolves it. If you're still seeing a leak after that, email us and we'll walk you through it.
A slight adjustment in spray pattern is normal as the filter media settles. Run the shower for 3 to 5 minutes after installation - most customers notice no meaningful difference in pressure. If pressure feels significantly reduced after that, contact us.
The filter
We recommend replacing the filter every 90 days, which corresponds to roughly one quarter of use for a household with one to two daily showers. Replacement filters are $23 per quarter, locked permanently for Founders.
You don't need to remove VESL from the wall. The filter housing unscrews from the base, the old cartridge lifts out, the new one drops in, and the housing threads back on. No tools, no plumber, under two minutes.
VESL uses five filter media layers:
- KDF-55 - targets heavy metals including lead and mercury
- Calcium Sulfite - removes chlorine, including in hot water where most filter media fail
- Granular Activated Carbon - broad-spectrum organic reduction
- Bacteriostatic Media
- Mineral Infrared Media
